What a fun Party it was…

Friday the 13th came and went and with it 50 or so people popped into my Music Art reception at Nick’s On Grand, 223 Grand Avenue, South San Francisco. They looked, sipped, mingled, stayed for dinner, sat in with the band, and seemed to be having as good a time as I did. The artwork will be up for a couple more months, so if you didn’t make it, you still can. Restaurant hours are 11 – 8pm and my work is in all 3 areas, so start looking when you enter the front door.

Here are a few shots of the reception:

Great Lighting and an iphone

I attended a screening of Time Remembered, the story of jazz piano genius Bill Evans last night at the Lark Theater in Larkspur. It was preceded by a short concert by Dick Fregulia’s Bill Evans Tribute Band. The lighting was so well done that I had to shoot with my iphone. Here are a few of the results.

A few more Chameleons

Four new ones since the last post. Still plan on a couple more. There will be an exhibition in the Bay Area later in the year. Woo Hoo!

New ‘Chameleon’ Series

Currently I’ve finished 8 new renderings of musicians with a plan to do several more in the series.

You’ll find them in my Music portfolio on this site where you can see larger versions. Hope you like them – and I’d love to have any questions or comments!!

Port Chicago Suite

A wonderful review of a wonderful tour-de-force performance of Marcus Shelby’s Port Chicago Suite just came out using 3 of my photographs. Thank you Jeff Kaliss for the brilliant analysis of the evening and for using my photographs. Here’s the review.

Another Music Photo in the News

Another photo I took of the talented pianist, Larry Vuckovich, found its way into the Napa Valley’s Weekly Calistogan. After this past month where TWO of my musician photos were used in two different obituaries, it is heartening to see one used to promote great music! @larryvuckovich.

One of my music shots used for new website

Happy to have one of my little jazz shots used in a new local site – even if it was a quick mobile phone shot meant to share on the night. The top image of the Cartoon Jazz Octet playing on a tiny stage in Bird & Beckett Books and Music, one of my favorite San Francisco venues.

A Nice Little Photo Shoot

After a wonderful concert at the Nikko, I was privileged to be asked to take a few photographs of the stellar artists.

The Sun Was Shining on Balboa Street

A fun afternoon meeting lots of folks from the Outer Richmond, plus seeing friends who’d stopped by just ’cause they knew I’d be there. Great help and company from Linda McGilvray – on the left in the photo – and thanks for the photo, Brian McMillan.

My 15 minutes of Fame

A very nice article appeared in today’s San Francisco Chronicle about some of my recent jazz photography which is being featured at a festival this weekend.

It should be a fun day, so if you’re reading this before Saturday, August 4th, and you’re somewhere near San Francisco, here are the details:
